Women Empowerment!

I see a lot being told and bragged about ‘Women Empowerment.’ But, what exactly would we include when we talk about this so-called term?

Yes, every second woman is a working individual these days. Women are spread all across various sectors. Be it sports, politics, corporate offices, stand-up comedy, etc. Name it and you’ll find us! We are the decision-makers too and not just the decision followers.

But does just stepping out of our houses is all that should count as being empowered? I won’t agree. Yes, we can finance our own needs, we dress as we wish, we have the freedom. We voice out our opinions too. But, is it all?

We still face domestic violence, live in toxic relationships, face gender biases and face many other issues in this male-dominated cruel world.

But, what is more disheartening to me is, a woman bringing down another woman. Let’s get real, ‘Women are gossip mongers’ and when I say this being a woman myself, I know how evilish it gets.

I firmly believe, ‘We should be talking more about the thoughts – positive thoughts, empowered women bring to the table.’
If we can’t support another woman and choose to bring her down by our acts, the whole essence of women being empowered, goes down the drain.

I’ve heard women passing offensive comments on other women and I did not know how to react to it.

Have guy friends? You’re a whore! A slut!
Wear short dresses? Attention seeker!
Got a promotion? Must have slept with the Boss.
Look pretty and other women will make weird faces.

Get married and your spouse happens to be financially stable, you’re a gold digger!
Come home late night and all the Pammi Aunties in the society have already proclaimed you’re characterless.

I won’t deny women not taking advantage of their beauty. They do. But, not all. But, is it not wrong to tarnish someone’s character?

I’ve seen pregnant women not being offered a seat by women who have already embraced pregnancy. How can you be so heartless? If a woman who has already been a mother doesn’t understand another woman going through the same phase, are you even a woman?

I remember, I once offered my seat at the railway platform to a pregnant woman but, by the time she could reach, a woman hurriedly sat and ignored the woman with a womb. Seeing this sight, we both gave each other a helpless smile and kept standing until the train arrived.

Yes, I get annoyed by such behavior. But, I still haven’t had the courage to voice it out. You cannot teach someone to be human so, you just do your part and let it just be.

Everything a woman does is watched minutely by every other woman. Why? The world is a cruel place already for a woman, why would we want to make it hell for each other?

These days, it’s just a trend! See someone climbing-up the ladder by doing the right deeds? Let’s attack their character, play with their emotions. An easy way out is to disturb their mental health, isn’t it?

I have worked with a team of women for more than a year and trust me when I say this – I kept my mouth shut all the while. Reason – Their negative talks. Though I am a fun loving person and always up for some prank, it was disturbing to keep quiet at work. But, I decided of not being a part of the gossip gang.

With time, they were completely fine with me not being a part of their gossips. Though I was one of their topics to gossip on, I chose to ignore it all. I decided to do what is right than being socially acceptable. I did not want to stoop to their level.

Choosing the right path is not always easy especially when everyone has chosen the wrong path. Your decision of choosing a different path will definitely raise some brows but, do what is right.

Be a woman who motivates others to do good!
If you can’t do good, that’s okay. But, never put another woman to shame.
That’s not at all empowering!

It’s okay to leave the table if it doesn’t serve what you’re looking for. Remember, peace of mind is more important than several pieces of mind.

Let’s support each other and not make it difficult to survive in a world where masculinity is already trying to suppress us.

‘Women Empowerment is all about women empowering women.’
