Is God Deaf?

I wonder how the God turned deaf!
To feed ourselves with great food during festivals, we turn into a chef.

We dance over songs objectifying women,
We call this festival? Tell me how and from when?

Why do I need to yell on a mic or play irrelevant, filthy songs?
Are we really a thinking animal or to a demon’s family we all belong?

There is less of devotion and more of show-off,
Why do we yell, why can’t the speakers be off?

Do I need to show the world I am celebrating God,
When there is everything else in the celebration but, not God?

Is devotion all about making others know you’re celebrating while dancing on the road on songs so absurd
Or is devotion more about your soul flying as free as a bird.

I understand that a huge congregation would need a speaker and spoc,
But why do nobody question the stupidity that follows… Why being a blinded flock?

Why I dance, touch women and do stunts in the name of worship?
Have we dropped our brain somewhere? How did it slip?

Why you dress so beautifully when the heart is still unclean?
Your evil thoughts and acts are still seen…

Do we help the poor, the marginalized, the one in need?
Their cry is much louder, for acceptance in the society they plead.

You hate and be jealous of your neighbour
And then ask God to bless you with fruits of labour?

I got an exam but, I can’t study coz they’re playing songs so loud to praise God.
I am sure, of your acts the God is not proud!

The boy in the next house just lost his father and isn’t in that state of mind.
But the society is celebrating God. To his pain, they all turned blind.

I ask you, have you ever questioned why playing games and loud music or cleaning houses is termed a festival?
For how long will we continue this illogical celebration?

Is my God deaf? Is the Almighty really looking for us to impress or do we have a bigger purpose?
Why have we turned worship into a circus?

Dear God, do you need the loud noise?
When we all know God doesn’t then, why do we not voice out our voice?

The poem is not about any particular religion, faith or community. Its about how we all have lost our senses. There is no more devotion or worship in our acts. We’ve taken everything for granted… even the GOD.

I totally agree with you. True faith is not in showing off during festivals, or in any other form. And as you said, if hatred and jealousy come in between your faith and devotion, what are trying to do? Cheating yourself by saying you believe in God?
That being said, I do enjoy festivalsπŸ˜… Not really the glamour, but more so the social gatherings and chit chatπŸ˜‚ it’s not really downright “wrong” to celebrate festivals in this way, but what is wrong is when you start to believe this is a demonstration of devotion. 1. Festivals and devotion go hand in hand, don’t they?
Well, I’m not saying that I do prayers whole day during festivals but, the concept of dress well, loud music, commotion is not how it should be. My festival should not hamper, affect or disturb anyone’s life, mental health, daily work or schedule.

Yes of course! What you said is absolutely correct. I like to dress up in general, makes ME feel good. Be it a festival, get together, birthdays etc. Festivals are just an excuse. Loud music and commotion, in general I don’t like. If you really want to do that, if it is so important, just book a hall. And if you can’t, don’t disturb other people at least! I agree with you on this😁

And to works that are evidently seen by the public, sometimes captured as a proof that you’ve helped your neighbors. The festivals are unnecessary, I’ve seen agnostic people doing the kindest things for all mankind. Ps: I’m not against anyone’s way of doing things though.

Another excellent thought provoking post. It is funny how many people wear religious jewelry, show religious bumper stickers on their cars, spew religious phrases, yet have not the light shining from their hearts. Rituals and festivals don’t matter. God is not deaf, He is frustrated we are not listening.
